The drums, in particular, are well captured here, dispersed throughout the stage. McCarthy must have spent much time on the snare, achieving the ideal balance of "pop" and texture with each stroke. Additionally, the electric guitars are recorded with a lovely combination of body and chime. Additionally, the recording succeeds dynamically, and the mix achieves a pleasant three-dimensionality, as well as exceptional picture focus and solidity. Ironically, the weakest auditory link is the recording of Duritz's voice, which, although not extensively processed, has a little thin, flat tone and a small edge that will grate on certain systems more than others. Perhaps a hint of the infamous Aphex Aural Exciter? Whatever it is, it should not detract much from the otherwise superb auditory delights.

Counting Crows visited London's AIR studios two months ago, after the completion of their European tour, and recorded âAugust and Everything Afterâ with the London Studio Orchestra. That is not to say they performed their 1993 debut album of the same name, but rather an outtake from the sessions for the record. Over the last quarter-century, the missing title track has acquired near-mythic status among Counting Crows fans, but vocalist Adam Duritz never completed the song until only a few months ago, when Amazon Music contacted him about collaborating with an orchestra. The completed track is included below. August and Everything After was one of many lyric ideas in Adam Duritz's notepad when the band entered the studio in early 1993, but his attempts to record the nine-minute song never materialized. âIt was just me on the piano, which was perhaps not the best arrangement for it,â Duritz explains. âThere were voids in the lyrics, which weighted it down significantly. The whole thing was sluggish. We were forced to trash it.â
