Edina is the preseason favorite in Class AA, having survived a sectional final against Blake, the state's second-ranked team. However, the regular season showed that Edina and Blake were not nearly as far ahead of the competition as anticipated. Centennial upset Edina during the regular season, but fell to possible semifinal opponent Hill-Murray in their lone matchup. It should be a tough competition highlighted by a few of outstanding games. Warroad is the favorite in Class A, but the top half of the bracket should be competitive. Red Wing, captained by Taylor Heise, is set to face a deep Breck squad in the semifinals.
Three victories will be enough for the Beavers (23-5-1 overall, 11-2-1 WMCH) to hoist their first of what they hope will be several trophies this postseason when they face the University of Minnesota in the conference tournament opener on Friday at 7:45 p.m. in Chesterfield, Mo.
âWe are looking forward to competing in the conference tournament this weekend,â said Minot State head coach Ryan Miner. âIt will provide us with a solid indication of our standing moving into the National Tournament. Six of the seven (WMCH) teams are now listed in the Top 10, which means that each game will be a chance to compete and assess how we stack up against our opponents.
