All of the aircraft we travelled in were immaculate and seemed to be brand new. The cabin crew, like the oryx emblem on the tail and wingtips, is elegant and well-dressed. They just seem to be a notch above the competition. While the majority of other airlines we've travelled with seem to strive for the seductive, dip-me-in-honey-and-throw-me-to-the-lesbians aesthetic, Qatar opts for a classic, sophisticated style. We like Qatar's commitment to become a genuinely worldwide airline with an international personnel. On any given Qatar aircraft, crew members will hail from all four hemispheres. Our flight attendants came from a variety of countries, including Germany, South Africa, Korea, Portugal, the Philippines, and the United Kingdom.
A vegetarian bean croquette was served with rice and tomato sauce as the vegan dinner. The rice was little parched; the croquette was boring; in fact, it tasted like cardboard. The rice appetizer was pretty nice and flavorful. What I like most about Qatar's economy class dinner tray were the minor details, such as decent silverware, focaccia bread, and the presentation of the napkin. What I didn't like was the meal's flavor and quality; my expectations were maybe a touch too lofty.
The bar is set fairly high while flying Qatar Airways, and quite rightfully so, given the airline's 5-star rating. The only difficulty with releasing an excellent product offering like the QSuites — which is not accessible throughout the whole fleet — is that unexpected aircraft alterations might leave customers unsatisfied and underserved. | Return flight from Gatwick to Shanghai via Doha. Both legs will be flown on a Boeing 777-300. The LGW-DIA leg was certainly an older aircraft, judging on the sluggish in-flight entertainment. On-demand movies and television were available at each seatback through a USB charging port. On all aircraft types, the audio connection was a two-pin connector, which meant that you could not use your own headphones. It's a nice touch to be able to play games on the aircraft with other passengers. One hour of complimentary internet access was also a pleasant touch, as was the respectable speed for emails and social media (albeit not fast enough to publish anything other than text/images). The food was excellent. Excellent touches with the menu distribution and metal silverware. Excellent beverage service. It's little infuriating that lunch service is provided immediately upon takeoff, even at almost 2 a.m. Legroom and recline were adequate. When seated at the hips, the seat was comfortable; but, as the seat rose in height, it became quite narrow. The majority of passengers of ordinary build will notice that their shoulders extend towards the aisle. Additionally, the aisle is somewhat small. Passengers on aisle seats are often knocked against.
