Sheriff Scott Jones of Sacramento County came to personally hear concerns concerning fatal traffic collisions on Delta routes, including River Road, Highway 160, and Twin Cities Roads in Walnut Grove. Sacramento and East Bay commuters are utilizing GPS-enabled smartphones to navigate the Delta back roads. Citizens allege that they are passing on two-lane highways across double yellow lines and reaching speeds of up to 80-90 miles per hour in 45-mile-per-hour zones. This is a follow-up to an October meeting on the same issue, at which veteran CHP officer Bill Dixon chastised the CHP and Sheriff's Department for neglecting the concerns. Mr. Dixon has since been killed in a car accident on one of the Delta's treacherous roads. Numerous burial memorials dot the Delta highways as reminders of this issue. Everyone in the audience said that they had to avoid these unsafe drivers on a near-daily basis, and others have difficulty exiting their driveways due to traffic and speeders.
The Golden State Killer, who was arrested on suspicion of eight murders in Sacramento and Ventura counties, is suspected of at least 12 murders, 45 rapes, and 120 house burglaries throughout California.
According to The Sacramento Bee, the cold-case murderer is thought to have raped 37 victims in the Sacramento and Central Valley area and murdered two between 1976 and 1978. Officials suspect he then made his way to the Bay Area and Southern California.
