This aging, underutilized San Francisco backyard was renovated into a contemporary, low-maintenance landscape with site-appropriate flora accentuated by elevated planting beds and a lead-free artificial turf to replace the original thirsty lawn. To break up the long, narrow yard, I constructed two distinct "rooms" and selected full range blue stone for the two little patio spaces, which are joined by a curving pattern of rectangular pavers made of the same natural stone. Along with gravel bed accents, elevated concrete rectangular planting beds were used to provide movement and character to the landscape.
