A South Park videogame was intended for the GameBoy Color and was in production at Acclaim Studios in 1998, but was quickly scrapped by the show's creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who felt the game was unsuitable for the system's primary market of children. There is very little information available about this game, and just one screenshot was released in an old Nintendo Power magazine (issue 114). Trey and Matt now own the prototype cartridge, which commemorates the very first South Park game ever developed. Acclaim did not want their investment in the South Park game to go to waste, so it was renamed Maya the Bee and distributed in Europe. It was also renamed the New Adventures of Mary Kate & Ashley and released in the United States. If you watch footage of these two games, you'll see that the HUD is almost identical, as are the platforms and ladders.

However, it was canceled when Matt Stone and Trey Parker said that the Game Boy Color was geared at children and hence South Park would not fit on the system. Matt and Trey are claimed to own the game's only prototype version. Later that year, the game's source code and frameworks were utilized in additional Game Boy Color titles.
