Today, Kansas City Union Station serves as a destination in and of itself, with a major interactive science museum, a train exhibit, an Irish museum, a five-story Regnier Extreme Screen theater and Gottlieb Planetarium, as well as restaurants, shops, and event facilities. Due to its many collaborations, Kansas City Union Station is essentially self-sustaining, serving as a model for future station restoration initiatives. Kansas City has a long history as a meeting place and transition point; it is situated at the junction of the Missouri and Kansas rivers and was designated a âgood position for a fortâ by Lewis and Clark during their tour after the Louisiana Purchase. In the early 18th century, the first European immigrant in the Kansas City region was a French fur trader named tienne de Veniard; several other fur dealers operated out of the Kansas City area during those early years. Throughout the nineteenth century, its central position gave it an excellent jumping-off point for visitors traveling west on the Santa Fe, Oregon, and California routes, and the city has long been regarded as a gateway to the American West.

By 1973, just 32,842 people had gone through the station, Amtrak had taken over all passenger train operations, and the structure was starting to degrade. Kansas Local's city administration want to preserve and redevelop the structure. To do this, they entered into a development agreement with Trizec Corporation, a Canadian redevelopment corporation, in 1974. [9] Trizec agreed to renovate the station as part of the arrangement. Trizec developed two office buildings on adjacent land between 1979 and 1986 but did not renovate the station. Amtrak consolidated passenger operations in 1985, relocating them to a smaller "Amshack" building next to the original station. By this time, the station had been mostly abandoned. Wow! This location was incredible! We really enjoyed our visit to the Dinosaurs Exhibit and, of course, the Chocolate Factory, but were disappointed to discover that the Science Center is closed on Mondays. The Parisi Coffee shop is an excellent location for a fast cup of coffee...try the roasted sweet potato latte! Seriously, it's excellent! The walkway (link) connecting the Station, Westin hotel, and Crown Mall was an excellent idea for those chilly, windy days, but you can also wander and appreciate the public artwork and water fountains on sunny days.

The self-guided walking tour (located on the second and third levels) reveals some incredible facts about the events that shaped Union Station. It clearly displays artifacts, videos, and story lines. Additionally, you get some fantastic views out into the station. The miniature railroad is wonderful! It is both comprehensive and thorough. They have a whole room dedicated to model trains of different scales. Additionally, there is an interactive space for children to play and engage more. I could spend hours watching the model railroad scenery come to life with activity.
And, as you can see, it is going to reshape America, positioning us to win the economic struggle of the twenty-first century with the rest of the world, notably China.

During the Stockyards' height, Kansas City was famous for its Kansas City steaks or Kansas City strip steaks. A stadium tour is an excellent experience for Royals fans or enthusiasts of sports in general.
I adored the museum. Keeps a five-year-old engaged and amused. My only criticism was that the restrooms were filthy. Someone has to clean them on a more frequent basis than merely at the end of the day. When toilet paper soaked with menstrual blood is found on the floor, that is just disgusting. Never mind explaining it to a five-year-old.
