Today, Kansas City Union Station serves as a destination in and of itself, with a major interactive science museum, a train exhibit, an Irish museum, a five-story Regnier Extreme Screen theater and Gottlieb Planetarium, as well as restaurants, shops, and event facilities. Due to its many collaborations, Kansas City Union Station is essentially self-sustaining, serving as a model for future station restoration initiatives. Kansas City has a long history as a meeting place and transition point; it is situated at the junction of the Missouri and Kansas rivers and was designated a âgood position for a fortâ by Lewis and Clark during their tour after the Louisiana Purchase. In the early 18th century, the first European immigrant in the Kansas City region was a French fur trader named tienne de Veniard; several other fur dealers operated out of the Kansas City area during those early years. Throughout the nineteenth century, its central position gave it an excellent jumping-off point for visitors traveling west on the Santa Fe, Oregon, and California routes, and the city has long been regarded as a gateway to the American West.

Annual passenger volume peaked at 678,363 in 1945. As rail traffic fell in the 1950s, the city's demand for a substantial train station diminished. By 1973, just 32,842 people had gone through the station, Amtrak had taken over all passenger train operations, and the structure was starting to degrade. Kansas Local's city administration want to preserve and redevelop the structure. To do this, they entered into a development agreement with Trizec Corporation, a Canadian redevelopment corporation, in 1974. [9] Trizec agreed to renovate the station as part of the arrangement. Trizec developed two office buildings on adjacent land between 1979 and 1986 but did not renovate the station. Amtrak consolidated passenger operations in 1985, relocating them to a smaller "Amshack" building next to the original station. By this time, the station had been mostly abandoned. The city sued Trizec in 1988 for failing to develop the station; the matter was resolved in 1994. [9] For the most of this time span, the structure deteriorated. [edit] Renovation

Wow! This location was incredible! We really enjoyed our visit to the Dinosaurs Exhibit and, of course, the Chocolate Factory, but were disappointed to discover that the Science Center is closed on Mondays. The Parisi Coffee shop is an excellent location for a fast cup of coffee...try the roasted sweet potato latte! Seriously, it's excellent! The walkway (link) connecting the Station, Westin hotel, and Crown Mall was an excellent idea for those chilly, windy days, but you can also wander and appreciate the public artwork and water fountains on sunny days.

Smith's departure is not always a negative thing. Steve Spagnuolo, the Chiefs' new defensive coordinator, has traditionally used a 4-3 strategy rather than the 3-4 model the Chiefs are accustomed to. When it comes to 4-3 systems, outside linebacker coaches are not a primary focus. Typically, all that is required is a linebackers coach, which the Chiefs have in Mark DeLeone. Smith was lauded for his collaboration with Dee Ford during this year's breakthrough season, which saw him rank among the NFL's top overall defenders. Ford was even listed as the NFL's No. 1 edge defender by Pro Football Focus. Given the Chiefs' lead in the NFL in total sacks, Smith deserves credit for his work with a number of the Chiefs' pass rushers.

The self-guided walking tour (located on the second and third levels) reveals some incredible facts about the events that shaped Union Station. It clearly displays artifacts, videos, and story lines. Additionally, you get some fantastic views out into the station. The miniature railroad is wonderful! It is both comprehensive and thorough. They have a whole room dedicated to model trains of different scales. Additionally, there is an interactive space for children to play and engage more. I could spend hours watching the model railroad scenery come to life with activity.

And, as you can see, it is going to reshape America, positioning us to win the economic struggle of the twenty-first century with the rest of the world, notably China.

As I previously said to Xi Jinping, betting against the American people has never been a wise bet.

[edit] Cuisine Kansas City is well-known for its steak and Kansas City-style barbecue, as well as a variety of traditional Southern fare. During the Stockyards' height, Kansas City was famous for its Kansas City steaks or Kansas City strip steaks. The Golden Ox, located in the Kansas City Live Stock Exchange in the West Bottoms stockyards, is the most renowned of its steakhouses. These stockyards were the second largest in the country after those in Chicago, but they never recovered following the Great Flood of 1951 and finally closed. Jess & Jim's Steakhouse, founded in 1938 in the Martin City district, was likewise well-known.

14. Take a look at Kansas City's Crown Jewel

Kauffman Stadium, dubbed Kansas City's Crown Jewel, is the home of the Major League Baseball franchise Kansas City Royals. Since its inception in 1973, the stadium has welcomed an astounding 77,000,000 spectators. Tours of the stadium include access to the Royals Hall of Fame, a close-up view of the stadium's biggest HD screen, and an interactive children's section. A stadium tour is an excellent experience for Royals fans or enthusiasts of sports in general.

I adored the museum. Keeps a five-year-old engaged and amused. My only criticism was that the restrooms were filthy. Someone has to clean them on a more frequent basis than merely at the end of the day. When toilet paper soaked with menstrual blood is found on the floor, that is just disgusting. Never mind explaining it to a five-year-old.
