Alvin, Simon, and Theodore were three characters that young boys could identify with: one was intelligent, another was hungry, and the third was mischievous. They embodied the individuality of all guys. However, the narratives were mostly focused on the world of guys. Regrettably, the show's makers responded by introducing female characters that are each the polar opposite of their male counterparts. They often competed against the males, and the boys ALWAYS lost. They never won, and although these circumstances may have inspired and reassured females in the real world, the show's designers entirely overlooked the young boys who tuned in to see the chipmunks' innocent antics. Finally, the show's message to young males was that girls are competitors. The show's producers should have stressed a message of collaboration, as many contemporary cartoons do. Rather than that, by having the girls defeat the boys in almost every episode, many young boys developed an aversion to the concept of female empowerment—an aversion that no young guy should develop.

I adore this show; I watch it with my nieces and nephews, ages 5 to 12, who all like the episodes and music. I'd want to bring out that I'm a 25-year-old neurobiologist and psychology student who grew up watching Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoons and continues to appreciate the program personally. While I see why people may be put off by the show's animation at first sight. For me, the way the episodes go minimizes the animation issues, and I've seen the animation improve throughout the seasons. To be honest, I find it entertaining to watch. Hopefully, they will add season 3 to 4 in the near future.

Alvin, Simon, and Theodore begin to assume that Dave is going to propose to his new girlfriend in New York City... and then dump them. They have three days to track him down and halt the proposal, so avoiding not only Dave's loss but also the possibility of obtaining a dreadful stepbrother.

Fortunately, "Alvin and The Chipmunks" stands up pretty well, in part because it is written in the style of a typical comedy. A great family treat!
